Dear readers:
I received email correspondence today from a reader named Patricia, who, while listening to Missler teaching and reading some of Chuck and Nancy Missler's published material (particularly Nancy's) became concerned by parallels she recognized to the writings and quotations by others of famous Catholic mystics (some of which were not approved by the Catholic Church but are still influential in some Catholic circles). Here are some of Patti's comments:
"My husband and I have been listening to Chuck's commentaries now for several months. We do not agree with all he has to say, but have really enjoyed his commentaries.
I finally ordered Nancy's triology of books. Feel like I've been hit with a 'Mack' truck this week.
I could not believe her deep involvement with Madame Guyon; and how could one so involved in the word not see the error in this woman's teachings? Nancy's book, 'Faith in the Night Seasons,' is just a reprint of Guyon's mysticism in a revised edition from Nancy.
I am so glad we have not invested in the complete set of commentaries; someone has loaned them to us.
We first stumbled onto a book by Madame Guyon about twenty-five years ago.
We knew then it was a dangerous path. We were 'out of church' and 'out of touch' for nine years. Two years ago, the Lord really sought me out, I know no other way
to explain, as I was just coasting along, not considering my spiritual life,
neither did I question my salvation, but pretty much just going through life.
Anyway, we began to search for a church and body of believers with whom to connect.
We were shocked by the transition of 'The Church' in those nine years. I began to research a lot of stuff on the Internet. The whole 'contemplative, emergent, etc.,' movements amazed me.
I keep seeing this 'mysticism' surface and see how that whole thread handed down through Catholicism is being woven throughout the body of Christ. Even going back to Wesley, you can find references to Madame Guyon.
Her original writings are so confusing that what you get now is basically what a few people have 'translated' what they think she said. One thing she does say 'You can come to the place where you no longer need prayer; the word, God is within you; you only need to look within yourself.'
This type of teaching and practice opens the door to so much error, and it's rampant today.
Ironically, Chuck mentions that he's sort of a 'mystic' himself! I was never
comfortable with that, but just brushed it off......but now........I'm not
so sure.
I doubt seriously they would consider a warning from someone like myself; it would be akin to trying to persuade a Mormon that he did not know the same Jesus. Only God himself can truly reveal to our hearts error that we may have sought to promote.
My part, knowing what I know, I can not and will not support or recommend
the Missler's ministry.
Knowing how intelligent, knowledgeable and intense Chuck is, how is it he didn't
catch the error in Nancy's book and correct her?
Quoting from her very own book:
Faith in the Night Seasons, page 21:
'I yearned for comfort and understanding, but strangely enough, the only references
to the dark night that I could find apart from the Bible were in the works of
two Catholic mystics, St. John of the Cross and Jeanne Guyon.'
There's her mistake!!!! When do we need to look outside of his word?
How can we even suggest we need to look outside of his word.
It's outside of his word where we find error.
Jesus himself used the word to refute Satan.
Everything we need is in his word.
God help us that we think a 'mystic' would have better answers for us."
Thank you, Patti, for alerting us to more Missler error! Readers are invited, of course, to do their own research to assure themselves of the truth. Here's an article by Willie Peterson of Watch Pair warning of Chuck's embrace of new age (kaballah) principles.

Nancy Missler has gone off into left field with her unbiblical teachings about the partial rapture and Chuck has followed along as Adam did with Eve. I walked away from their teachings while I was still an Acts 2 believer.
Wish every believer had your discernment skills, Derek! Thanks for writing!

I used to be a "misslerite" until i discovered right division. I have also noticed that even though Chuck is supposedly super intelligent, a lot of his info in his messages and commentaries are from other peoples work. He uses a lot of different authors and doesn't always site them. Judy
Hi, Judy, and thanks for weighing in. You are very fortunate to have learned right division of God's word; it can only increase the discernment you already have!
If you Google search the subject, you'll find that Chuck Missler has been publicly accused of plagiarism, although I don't think charges were filed in court. That kind of negative publicity certainly tarnishes the scholarly, righteous image he seeks to project, although he has diehard fans that turn a blind eye to it.
I'm just glad you are able to see through the facade!
Judy, I hope you will consider sending me your grace testimony for our testimony site!

From the time I was introduced to Missler's work I was not a fan. So, to hear where he is in his teaching today is no surprise to me.
Good observations, saints!
I've often wondered how a true believer can teach some of the untruths that they do. Since the Spirit of TRUTH indwells the believer, doesn't it stand to reason that true believers would in fact desire to know, understand, and share the TRUTH of Scripture with others. And in fact study diligently to truthfully understand so they may pass along the Truth to other believers in an effort to build up the Body of Christ in LOVE.
I find that far too many that profess to be "Christian," are just that - "professers" - talking a lot and gaining a following. Let us stand fast in the Faith as Paul presents the Faith - Jesus Christ according to the Revelation of the MYSTERY.
Hi, De,
I'm sure I speak for grace saints everywhere when I respond, "Amen and amen!"
Thanks for your comment,
Deborah
